“There’s one thing that children, politicians, celebrities, animal welfare groups, and elephant experts have all agreed on: Mali needs—and deserves—to be transferred to a proper sanctuary,” says PETA Asia Campaigns Manager Rochelle Regodon. “PETA hopes President Aquino will take immediate action to ensure that Mali is freed from the isolation and neglect that she has endured for 36 years.”

“For long years, Mali made us happy, so please let’s us make Mali happy too,” says one card. “Kindly respect him and love him while he’s still alive. I really wanted him to be returned where he belonged. … My heart cried and deeply hurt about his situation,” said another.

At a sanctuary, Mali would have hectares of land on which to roam, rivers and ponds to bathe in, the crucial company of other elephants, and veterinary care for the potentially fatal foot problems caused by her decades-long captivity. Among the prestigious individuals and organizations that have joined PETA in calling for Mali’s release are world-renowned veterinarian Dr. Henry Richardson, wildlife conservationist Dr. Jane Goodall, a dozen other elephant experts, more than 50 international animal protection groups, and 20 local nongovernmental organizations.

Peter Jeffrey Revson (February 27, 1939 – March 22, 1974) was an American race car driver who had successes in Formula One and the Indianapolis 500.

Peter Revson was born in New York City, the son of Julie (née Phelps) and Martin Revson.

The nephew of Revlon Cosmetics industry magnate Charles Revson, he was an heir to his father Martin’s fortune (reportedly worth over $1 billion). He was a young, handsome bachelor who was described as a “free spirit” who passed up an easy life for one of speed and danger. Off the track, he led his life at the same accelerated pace. Revson piloted a 32-foot (9.8 m) ChrisCraft and courted some of the most beautiful women in the world, including fashion model and 1973 Miss World, Marjorie Wallace. He had met Wallace at the Indianapolis 500; she was an Indianapolis native who was referred to as the “Hoosier Hotshot.”

Revson began racing in 1960 while at the University of Hawaii. He previously attended both Columbia University and Cornell University. Revson finished second in a local club event, driving a Plus Four Morgan. He proceeded in his racing career, becoming experienced in Formula cars, Trans-Am sedans, Can-Am Group 7 racers, GTs, and Indianapolis racers.

In 1963 Revson raced professionally while barnstorming Europe, driving a Formula Junior which was towed behind a beaten up British bread van.In 1968 he was part of the new Javelin racing program established by American Motors (AMC). At the first Trans-Am Series attempt, the 12 Hours of Sebring, Revson and Skip Scott drove to a 12th overall and took 5th in their class.

In the 1969 Indianapolis 500 Revson was the top rookie finisher, placing fifth in the event. He drove a Brabham-Repco which experienced carburetor problems. During a post-race election, he was selected as runner-up for rookie of the year. For the year Revson achieved seven top five finishes in the TransAm series, driving a Mustang.

In 1970 he teamed with Steve McQueen to place second in the 12 Hours of Sebring. The same year Revson drove with Mark Donohue in the Penske Racing AMC factory-team Javelins, in the SCCA Trans Am. He piloted an L&M Lola Cars special and became a top contender in the Can-Am racing series. Revson joined McLaren in 1971, becoming the first American to win the Can-Am Championship. That same season he finished second in the Indianapolis 500 after posting the fastest qualifying time.

He competed in the Indy 500 each year from 1969–1973. In 1972, Revson was named to the McLaren Formula One team. He remained with the team for two years, winning the 1973 British Grand Prix and the 1973 Canadian Grand Prix. He moved to Shadow in 1974. He is the last American born driver to win a Formula One race (Mario Andretti, who won in later years, is a naturalized American). His British Grand Prix victory made him the 50th World Championship Grand Prix winner.

Revson was killed during a test session on 22 March 1974, before the 1974 South African Grand Prix in Kyalami. While driving the Ford UOP Shadow-Ford DN3, he suffered a front suspension failure, and crashed heavily into the Armco barrier on the outside of “Barbecue Bend.”, and was killed.

He was the second Revson to lose his life racing; his brother Douglas was killed in a crash in Denmark in 1967. Peter and Douglas Revson are interred together in a crypt at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, New York.

Revson was replaced by Tom Pryce, who died three years later at the same Grand Prix.

He was inducted in the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 1996 in the sports car category.

Malachi Throne has  died.

Throne,  the  TV  character actor who played Robert Wagner’s boss on It Takes a Thief and the enigmatic evildoer False-Face on Batman, died  in Los Angeles  after  succumbing to cancer . He was 84.

Throne was born in New York City. He first appeared on stage at the age of ten in 1939 in the New York Parks Department production of Tom Sawyer as Huckleberry Finn.

Television career

Throne was a popular guest star on many television series of the 1960s and 1970s, including The Defenders, Naked City, Ben Casey, The Untouchables, GE True, The Fugitive, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (“The Four-Steps Affair” from 1965), Mannix (as Inspector Frank Kyler in “Run Sheep Run” – 1967), the High Chaparral, Hogan’s Heroes and also co-starring, with Robert Wagner, in the ABC series, It Takes a Thief. Throne also appeared in the 1965 season of Lost in Space as the Thief in the episode “The Thief of Outer Space.”

He made two appearances in the CBS’s Mission: Impossible, in seasons 1 and 4, in the late 1960s. He also appeared twice in the Irwin Allen ABC series, The Time Tunnel, most notably in the episode “The Death Merchant”, as Machiavelli, lost in time at the Battle of Gettysburg as well as co-starring in the episode “Night Of The Long Knives.” He even supplied voice talent in the unlikely “Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp” live action Saturday morning series of 1970-1971.

 Roles in Star Trek

Throne provided the voice of “the Keeper” in the Star Trek’s first pilot episode, “The Cage”, which did not air in its original form until 1988, though most of the episode was included within the two-part episode “The Menagerie” when it aired in 1966.Throne was hired to play another role in “The Menagerie,” which was technically a dual role: a commodore in Starfleet named José I. Mendez, the officer in charge of the starbase where the story begins, and a replica of him created by Talosian illusion, who presides at Spock’s court martial. Because his voice was recognizably the same as that of the Keeper, the Keeper’s voice was electronically altered in pitch.^[2] Earlier in The Outer Limits series he had guested in the “Cold Hands, Warm Heart” (1964) episode with William Shatner.

On Star Trek: The Next Generation he played Pardek, a Romulan senator, in the two-part episode “Unification”.

In 2004, Throne appeared in the second episode of the Star Trek Fan Series New Voyages, “In Harm’s Way”, playing a Klingon.

Roles in Batman

One of his strangest roles was as the villain “False Face” in the ABC Batman (1966) series. The character, who used a variety of disguises to effect his nefarious schemes, wore a semi-transparent mask when not in the midst of his crimes. The mask rendered Throne’s real face unrecognizable on screen. Playing off this effect, but against Throne’s wishes, the show’s producers wrote the on-screen credit as “? as False Face”, which denied Throne his credit. However, at the end credits of the episode, “Holy Rat Race,” his full name was finally given full credit. His portrayal was a substitution for Clint Eastwood’s proposed version of Two-Face.

Later, he appeared in animation as the voice of Two-Face’s superego “Judge” on The New Batman Adventures (1998), and as the voice of Fingers the Gorilla on the Batman Beyond episode “Speak No Evil” (2000).

 Role in Babylon 5

In the 1990s in the American television series Babylon 5, Throne became known to a new generation of TV science fiction viewers as “Prime Minister Malachi”, a high official of the Centauri government in the Hugo Award winning episode “The Coming of Shadows”. (The surprising eponymous character name was not revealed until a later episode.) The Prime Minister’s assassination ensured that the Centauri pursued a costly war, with tragic repercussions that drove one of the many plot lines in the series’ five year story arc.

Theatre career

Throne lived in southern California and did local theatre work there. He was a member of the Theatre West company in Hollywood. He also won critical acclaim for several performances with The Fountain Theatre in Los Angeles.

Chamitoff has been with NASA since 1995 and contributed to space projects before that as a graduate student at MIT. He has logged more than 198 days in space on NASA missions.

While working on his doctoral degree, Chamitoff performed stability analysis for the Hubble Space Telescope deployment, designed flight control upgrades for the Space Shuttle and developed attitude control system software for the Space Station. After joining NASA, Chamitoff led the development of software for spacecraft attitude control monitoring, prediction, analysis and maneuvering.

In 2008, Chamitoff served as the flight engineer and science officer for a six-month mission aboard the International Space Station. In 2011, Chamitoff served as a mission specialist on the last flight of Space Shuttle Endeavour and also performed the final spacewalk of the Space Shuttle program.

NASA helped launch MSC’s 50 years of success in the software industry. The company was founded in 1963.
