PETA Campaigns Starring Penelope Cruz and Stella McCartney Hit D.C. Fashion Week

Group Shares Stars’ Anti-Fur and Anti-Leather Campaigns With DCFW Attendees

Washington –  As models, designers, and buyers head to D.C. for Fashion Week, they’ll receive a major animal-friendly message courtesy of PETA, who will distribute leaflets featuring the group’s sexy new anti-fur ad starring Penelope Cruz and screen Stella McCartney’s leather exposé outside major DCFW events and throughout the city all week. The group hopes to show fashion week attendees that compassion is the hottest fashion trend for Fall 2012.

When:   Monday, February 20, through Sunday, February 26

“As a designer, I like to work with fabrics that don’t bleed; that’s why I avoid all animal skins,” says McCartney in her video exposé. “Please join me in exploring the huge variety of fashionable shoes, belts, purses, and wallets that aren’t the product of a cow’s violent death.”

For every coat, collar, or cuff made from fur or leather, animals suffer immensely. Every year, millions of foxes, minks, and rabbits— and even dogs and cats—are bludgeoned to death, electrocuted, or skinned alive for their pelts. And cows killed for their skin are castrated, branded, and dehorned and have their tails cut off, all without painkillers.
